Using Square Online with Frontpage
Run your website on Frontpage. Keep real Square Online ordering on an address like order.yourdomain.com. This guide shows the setup, how to add the link on Frontpage, and how this differs from Frontpage’s Square connection.
Many restaurants and cafés already take orders in Square Online. Customers get Square’s open hours, cart, checkout, and messages from Square. Frontpage is a great place for your marketing website. But if Square Online and Frontpage both try to use the same main address (like www), ordering can break.
The simple setup is this:
- Frontpage runs your main site on
www.yourdomain.com. - Square Online runs ordering on
order.yourdomain.com. - Your Frontpage menu or buttons link to that order address.

Two ways Frontpage can work with Square
Frontpage can work with Square in two different ways. Pick the one that matches how you sell today.
Square Online (this guide)
- Customers pay on Square Online
- Square keeps Online hours and checkout
- Square can still send texts, emails, and receipts
- Frontpage is your website and links to ordering
Square connected inside Frontpage
- You connect Square in Frontpage Modules
- Menu and checkout use Square’s developer tools
- Helpful if you want ordering closer to the Frontpage site
- Does not include every Square Online feature
Simple rule
If you already rely on Square Online for daily orders, keep Square Online for checkout (this guide). Use Frontpage for the website people browse before they order. Still choosing a path? Write support@frontpage.host and we will help you pick the right one.
What you will have when you finish
| Address | What it shows |
|---|---|
www.yourdomain.com | Your Frontpage website |
order.yourdomain.com | Square Online ordering (often at /s/order) |
The link you will put in your Frontpage menu is usually:
https://order.yourdomain.com/s/order
/s/order is Square Online’s normal order page path. After setup, open that link yourself
and make sure your menu loads.
Before you start
- Connect your own domain on Frontpage, or be ready to connect one.
- Sign in to Square and open Square Online.
- Confirm your Square Online plan allows a custom domain. Square shows: “You'll need to upgrade to a paid plan to use a custom domain.”
- Confirm who controls your domain settings (Frontpage, or a place like GoDaddy).
If any of those are unclear, email support@frontpage.host before you start. We can confirm domain ownership and walk through the Square plan check with you.
Step 1: Set up order.yourdomain.com in Square
- Open Square Online and sign in.
- Open domain setup for your site. You should see Set up your domain, with the line “Buy, connect, and manage domains associated with your site.”
- Click the black Set up domain button.
- In the panel that opens, choose Use a domain I own elsewhere. Skip Find a custom domain (that is for buying a new domain from Square). Skip Use a Square subdomain if you want the branded
order.yourdomain.comaddress in this guide. - Enter
order.yourdomain.comwhen Square asks for the domain you already own. - If Square asks how to connect it, choose the manual option so Square shows the DNS details.
- Copy the Points to number (an IP address). You need it in the next step.
This tells Square, “this address belongs to my Online store.” Changing domain settings alone is not enough. Square also has to accept the address and turn on the secure lock (HTTPS).
On Find a custom domain, Square may show: “You'll need to upgrade to a paid plan to use a custom domain.” If you cannot open Use a domain I own elsewhere, check your Square plan or email support@frontpage.host with a screenshot and we will help you get unstuck.
Step 2: Add the DNS record
DNS is the setting that tells the internet where order.yourdomain.com should go. Add this
record where your domain is managed:
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| A | order | The “Points to” number from Square |
Important
Add only this DNS record. Do not add order.yourdomain.com as a Frontpage
website domain. Frontpage should not try to run that address. Square should.
If Frontpage already manages your domain, email support@frontpage.host or your onboarding contact and we will add the record for you. If your domain is still at GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap, or similar, add it there.
Back in Square, click Verify when you see it. The secure lock can take a few minutes, or up to about 24 to 48 hours.
Check: open https://order.yourdomain.com/s/order. You should see your
Square Online order page. If it still fails after waiting, reach out to
support@frontpage.host with the Points to number and we will help debug
the DNS.
Step 3: Make Square Online “order only”
Square Online has its own top menu on every page. On order.yourdomain.com, clicks like Home
or About usually stay on that order address, not on your Frontpage site. If you leave that menu alone,
customers can feel like they landed on a second website.
In Square Online:
- Hide pages you do not need on the order address, or remove them from Square’s top menu so the page feels focused on ordering.
- Set Home and/or the logo to your Frontpage site:
https://www.yourdomain.com. Use the full address. Do not leave Home as a plain/on the order address. - Keep Order Online pointed at ordering (
/s/order).
Check: from the order page, Home or the logo goes back to Frontpage. Ordering still works. Want a second set of eyes on the Square menu? Email support@frontpage.host.
Step 4: Add the link on Frontpage
Frontpage does not add an Order button by itself. Ask the Frontpage agent, for example:
Add an “Order online” link in the main menu that goes to https://order.yourdomain.com/s/order
You can put the same link on a big button, a menu page, or the footer. One clear Order online button is usually best.
Opening in the same tab or a new tab is up to you. Same tab feels like one visit. A new tab keeps your Frontpage site open behind it. Both are fine after you clean up Square’s menu. Prefer we place the button for you? Write support@frontpage.host.
Step 5: Move your main website to Frontpage (do this last)
If Square Online still runs on your main www address, finish ordering on order. first, then
move www:
- Confirm
https://order.yourdomain.com/s/orderworks, and your Frontpage Order link works. - Finish the “order only” cleanup in step 3.
- In Square Domains, disconnect Online from www so Online stays only on
order.. - Connect www to Frontpage the normal way in Frontpage.
- Test: www shows Frontpage. Order online opens Square on
order.. Home from Square returns to www.
Do these steps in order
If you move www to Frontpage while Square Online still needs www for ordering, the old
www…/s/order link will break. Get order. working first. When you are ready for
the cutover, email support@frontpage.host and we can stay with you through
the switch.
What customers see
- They browse your Frontpage site.
- They click Order online and go to Square Online on
order.. - They order in Square (hours, cart, pay, Square’s messages).
- If you cleaned up Square’s menu, Home or the logo brings them back to Frontpage.
The top of the order page will not match your Frontpage menu exactly. That is normal. Use the same logo and colors, and a clear Order online button, so the handoff feels planned.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to try |
|---|---|
| Square will not connect order.yourdomain.com | Open Set up your domain, click Set up domain, then choose Use a domain I own elsewhere. If Square says you need a paid plan for a custom domain, upgrade or check billing. Still blocked? Email support@frontpage.host. |
| order.yourdomain.com will not load, or the lock icon fails | Check that the DNS number matches Square. Wait for Verify. Give DNS time to update. If it still fails, send the Points to number to support@frontpage.host. |
| The order page still looks like a full second website | Finish step 3. Trim Square’s menu. Point Home or the logo to www. |
| A free square.site link sends people back to www | Common while Square still uses your main domain. Prefer branded order. before Frontpage runs www. |
| Ordering on www broke after you moved the domain | Square Online was still tied to www. Put ordering on order., disconnect Online from www, keep Frontpage on www. Need help fixing it quickly? Email support@frontpage.host. |
Need a hand?
You do not have to finish this alone. Email support@frontpage.host anytime during setup. Tell us where you are stuck (Square domains, DNS, menu cleanup, or the Order link) and we will help you get ordering live.
Quick checklist
- In Square, open Set up your domain, click Set up domain, choose Use a domain I own elsewhere, and add
order.yourdomain.com. Copy the Points to number. - Add DNS type A, name
order, value = that number. Do not add it as a Frontpage site domain. - Verify in Square. Open
https://order.yourdomain.com/s/order. - Make Square Online order only. Point Home or the logo to Frontpage www.
- Ask Frontpage to add the Order online menu link.
- Only then disconnect Online from www and finish moving www to Frontpage.
When a checklist item stalls, email support@frontpage.host. Related: Connect a subdomain for external tools, How to use Modules, Getting started with Frontpage.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use Square Online, or Frontpage’s Square connection?
Use Square Online (this guide) if you already take orders in Square Online and you need Square’s open hours, order texts, and Square’s checkout. Use Frontpage’s Square connection if you want ordering inside Frontpage and you are fine without some Square Online features. Not sure which fits? Email support@frontpage.host and we will help you choose.
Does Frontpage’s Square connection send order confirmation texts?
Not the same way Square Online does. Square Online can text and email customers from Square. Frontpage’s Square connection uses Square’s developer tools for menu and checkout. It does not copy every Square Online feature, like Online open hours or Online text messages.
Do I need a paid Square Online plan for order.mydomain.com?
Usually yes. Square’s Set up your domain screen says you will need to upgrade to a paid plan to use a custom domain. Free Square Online is often limited to Use a Square subdomain (a free square.site address). If Set up domain is missing or blocked, check your Square plan. Stuck on the plan screen? Reach out to support@frontpage.host and we can walk through it with you.
Will the order page use my Frontpage menu bar?
No. When someone opens order.yourdomain.com, they see Square Online’s own top menu. That is why you should trim Square’s menu and point Home or the logo back to your Frontpage site. Your Frontpage menu stays on your main website.
Can I just put a free square.site link in my Frontpage menu?
Yes, for a quick temporary link. A branded order.yourdomain.com address looks better and works more reliably once Frontpage runs your main website. Free Square links often send people back to www while Square still uses your main domain.
Who adds the DNS record?
Whoever controls your domain settings. If Frontpage already manages your domain, email support@frontpage.host or your onboarding contact and we will add the record for you. If your domain is still at GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, or similar, add the record there.
Can Frontpage help me set this up?
Yes. Email support@frontpage.host anytime you get stuck on Square domains, DNS, menu cleanup, or the Order online link. We will help you get ordering working on order.yourdomain.com.
