How to invite your team and set permissions

Give each teammate the access they need for the right website.

Invite people to help with one Frontpage website and choose what they can do. You can give someone read-only access, let them edit and publish content, or make them an admin.

This guide uses a repair business where the owner manages billing, a teammate updates service pages, and a reviewer checks the website before release. Each person uses their own Frontpage account.

Before you start

Select the website you want to share. Open Site settings → Team & access as an admin. Only admins can invite people, change team roles, remove members, or cancel invitations.

Check the seats shown on the page. Members and pending invitations count toward the site's seat limit. If you reach the limit, review unused invitations or open Usage & plan to check the plan before inviting another person.

Access applies to the selected site. Inviting someone here does not give them access to every website in your account.

1. Choose the right role

Use the smallest role that covers the person's job. For the repair business, the reviewer needs Viewer, the person updating service pages needs Editor, and the owner keeps Admin.

Choose by the work they need to do

ViewerReview the private website editing surface. Cannot change content.
EditorEdit website content, upload files, restore website versions, and publish.
AdminManage site settings, billing, domains, and team access as well as content.
Role guide. Editors still cannot use admin-only settings. A site admin does not automatically become the account's billing owner.

An Editor can publish website changes, so do not use that role for someone who should only review. An Admin has broad control of the site. Choose that role only when the person needs those settings and responsibilities.

2. Send the invitation

In Invite a teammate, enter the person's email under Teammate email. Check the address carefully, then choose the Invitation role. The default is Editor, so change it when the teammate needs a different role.

Choose Invite. This submits the invitation immediately. There is no separate Save changes button to confirm it afterward. Wait for the result before leaving the page.

If the address already belongs to a Frontpage account, Frontpage adds that person as a member straight away and sends an email about their access. If the address is new to Frontpage, it creates a pending invitation and emails an acceptance link.

What happens after Invite

Existing Frontpage account

The person joins Members with the role you chose. They receive an email about their access.

New to Frontpage

The invitation appears in Pending invites. The person follows the email link and accepts it.

An invitation to an existing account can grant access immediately. Check the address and role before submitting.

3. Confirm they joined the right site

For a pending invitation, ask the teammate to open the invitation email and follow its link using the invited address. They should finish the sign-in or account setup shown by Frontpage.

Return to Team & access and check Members. Confirm the teammate's email and role. Ask them to open the site in their workspace and check that they can do the intended task.

For the repair business, the reviewer should be able to inspect the site without editing. The service-page editor should be able to edit and publish content. Neither needs admin access just to do that work.

4. Change a role when the work changes

Find the person in Members and use their role selector. Choosing a new role saves the change immediately. Wait for the result and check the saved role. A failed request leaves an error on the page; do not assume the change worked.

Frontpage requires at least one admin on a site. You cannot remove or demote the last admin. Add another trusted admin first if the current admin needs to step down.

Check before changing access

1Right websiteConfirm the site selected in the workspace.
2Right personCheck the full email address in Members or Pending invites.
3Right roleChoose the access their current job needs, then check the saved result.
Access changes take effect as you submit them. They do not wait for a website publish.

5. Cancel an invitation or remove access

If a pending invitation is no longer needed, find it under Pending invites and choose its cancel control. Check that it disappears from that list. Canceling a pending invitation does not remove someone who has already joined; use Members for that.

To remove a current teammate, find them in Members and choose the remove control beside their record. Check that they no longer appear. This removes their access to this website. It does not delete their Frontpage account or access they may have to other sites.

Invite the person again only if they need access later. Avoid sharing one login among several people. Separate accounts make it easier to give the right role and remove only the access that has ended.

Common problems

  • You see “Only admins can manage the team”: ask an existing site admin to make the invitation or role change.
  • You cannot invite another teammate: check whether members and pending invitations have filled the site's seats.
  • The person is already in Members: an existing Frontpage account can join immediately. Check the role there rather than sending another invite.
  • The invitation was created but the email failed: check the pending record and address. Do not assume the person received the link just because the invitation exists.

Check your result: each teammate appears on the correct site with the intended role, unused invitations are gone, and at least one trusted admin remains.
